COLD START Instructions 1. Mount good tape on drive 0 Mount scratch RK or RP on drive 0 2. Key the following at location 100000 012700 172526 010040 012740 060003 000777 3. 100000 in switches; Load Address; Start The tape should move and the CPU loop 4. Halt the CPU; 0 in switches; Load Address; Start The console should type '=' 5. Put 2 in the switches 6. Perform the following dialog Input is underlined < indicates CR or LF either. =MCOPY<______ 'p' for rp; 'k' for rk< K_< (or P_ for rp) disk offset< 0<__ tape offset< 76<___ count< 4000<_____ (wait for tape to read and rewind) =UBOOT<______ K_< (or P_ for rp) USR/SYS/UNIX<_____________ MEM = xxx< (where xxx is available core in .1K) < :LOGIN: ROOT<_____ # At this point, UNIX is up and running. One of the first commands should be # CHECK /DEV/DEV0<________________ To check the consistancy of the disk. Next on the list is to edit the password file to put in new users. (The only valid IDs are ROOT and BIN both without passwords.) Put password on ROOT and make new directories. The disk is very full of source that is meant just for the curuous. It may be removed or dumped off line with TP before being removed. Be sure to type SYNC before shutting down UNIX. To reboot UNIX warm, a) Perform all of above except the MCOPY dialog. b) The DEC RP/RK ROM will get you to step 6 above. c) If core is still intact, restart at 0.
